AFCI needed
Here's an example why recently required AFCI outlets are recommended even in older homes that did not require them at the time of construction. In this photo a penny had dropped behind a plugged in night light. You can see what happened to the penny. There's still some copper on the prongs of the plug on the night light. An Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI outlet) would have prevented this, which fortunately wasn't worse.
